THIS IS A PLUG FOR BONNY HUT'S GRANDMOTHER, MAVIS
HUTCHISON & HER FASCINATING & INSPIRING BOOK. AVAILABLE
HERE FROM AMAZON.
"Mavis Hutchison
became famous as the first woman that ran across the United States,
from Los Angeles to New York City at the age of 54. Her route, run in
1978, took her 2871 miles and 70 days. She made history and fulfilled a
dream. That crowning moment, however, did not come easy. By her own
admission, she had no personality, no guts and no backbone. Her rise
from whispering hope with no hope at all, to that triumphant finish
proves once more that success is available to all who are willing to
pay the price and will accept that there are no limits other than those
we impose on ourselves."
Since 2005
(since age 81) she has set South African W80+ master records for 100
metres (18.84 sec), 200 metres (45.46 sec), 400 metres (1:52.88 min),
and 800 metres (4:34.13 min).
